Heatwave: François Bayrou postpones trip to monitor situation and calls on French people to be "vigilant"
François Bayrou has postponed a trip planned for Tuesday, July 1, to closely monitor the heatwave in France, which is affecting a record number of departments, his office announced on Monday.

François Bayrou has postponed a trip planned for Tuesday to closely monitor the heatwave in France , which is affecting a record number of departments, his office announced on Monday.

The Prime Minister has been monitoring the weather situation "in real time" since Sunday because "the duration, geographical extent and intensity of this heatwave require special vigilance," Matignon said in a press release.

He assures that the government is "fully mobilized" and "calls for the greatest caution and vigilance from everyone, particularly towards the most vulnerable populations," thanking the mobilized state services.

The Prime Minister was not present but was represented by his chief of staff Nicolas Pernot for the activation on Sunday of the interministerial crisis unit at Place Beauvau, where six ministers attended: Élisabeth Borne (Education), Bruno Retailleau (Interior), Catherine Vautrin (Labor and Health), Agnès Pannier-Runacher (Ecological Transition), Yannick Neuder (Health) and Charlotte Parmentier-Lecocq (Disability).

Bruno Retailleau explained on Sunday evening after the interministerial meeting that the aim was to "review all the instructions," particularly regarding "health," before handing over to the other ministers.

Météo-France is maintaining an orange alert for 84 departments on Monday and Tuesday, with temperatures expected to exceed 40°C in some areas, a heatwave expected to last at least until midweek. Such a geographic spread is "unprecedented," Pannier-Runacher said.

François Bayrou was scheduled to travel to Chartres this Tuesday to present the state's territorial administration reform to all prefects. His trip has been postponed to the following Tuesday, July 8.

The head of government must also respond this Tuesday afternoon to a motion of censure from the Socialists, tabled after the failure of consultations on pensions.
